What FinCanvas does for fabrication shops.
Built for shops where every job has its own jig, its own material list, and a quote that has to make sense to a client who’s never seen a CNC bed.
Materials priced by the unit your spec uses
Per metre, per kg, per sheet, per piece — units land in the cost library and pull into a project in one click. Each line shows the unit price + quantity + margin live as you type. The maths reads the way the workshop reads.
Fixed vs variable costs, separated cleanly
Section types: Chargeable (on the client quote) and Overhead (your costs only). Fixed costs (setup, programming, jig fees) live in Chargeable; variable ones (per-unit material, per-hour labour) too. Overhead is your internal-only — wins are easier to read when the structure is honest.
Variants for one-off vs production run
Quote one-off (prototype + bespoke jig) and production-run (50 units at lower per-unit cost) side-by-side inside the same cost section. Compare totals; pick the variant the client signs. Same project, two quotes ready in seconds.
Common questions from fab-shop operators
Can I save material units (per kg, per sheet) and reuse them?
Yes. The cost library stores unit prices per material — pull into a project in one click. When supplier costs change, update the library and the next project picks up the new rate (existing projects stay locked to the rate they were quoted at).
How do I quote one-off vs batch in the same project?
Cost section variants. Each variant lives inside the section — one for the one-off bespoke quote (with jig + setup costs), one for the batch run (lower per-unit cost). Compare side-by-side; pick the active variant before sending.
Can I track time spent vs quoted?
Not in FinCanvas — we won’t build a time tracker (other tools do that well). Quote your labour hours per line; track actual time in your usual tool (Toggl, Harvest, Clockify). Compare quoted vs actual later via export.
Does FinCanvas export to my CAM / production system?
Not today — FinCanvas is the costing + quoting + invoicing layer, not the production planning tool. The line items export cleanly as PDF or CSV for manual import into whatever production tool you use.
